I have been AWOL from by blog for a while, I have been really busy this year which is great, however my time to write has been severely impacted. On a previous shoot with Siobhan Johnstone, I met a lady called Charlotte who runs a Fitness business called girls love fit. One of her main focus is using pole dancing as a form of fitness. This once taboo activity is now very much mainstream and used to great effect to keep fit. Charlotte herself being a Pole Performance champion is a shinning example of the effectiveness of the activity. I was asked about potentially shooting some images with her and some of her students, which I was delighted to be able to do. Pole fitness photography is something completely new to me, so I was looking forward to the challenge.
The shoot took place nearly a year ago in October 2014 (I just don’t know where this year has gone). It was a cold Sunday morning, I travelled to the dance studio near Stonehenge. Where I met with Stacey, who was my contact for the shoot as Charlotte was unable to attend. I set up a background and lights in preparation for the shoot. I had also arranged for makeup artist Tara Sanger to meet me there, she along with another makeup artist was there to make the girls look even more beautiful.
Once makeup was complete the group of 10 ladies, took it in terms to use the pole and perform various tricks and positions. I was able to fire away with the camera catching them in a multitude of different positions. It takes some serious upper body and core strength to do some of the poses they were able to achieve. Half way through the shoot, I changed the background over to something different and decided to add coloured gels to the lights to give a different look.
The girls were really impressive event those who hadn’t been doing it so long. Here are some of my favourite images from the shoot:
